It’s a Duplex and the client wanted to build maximum allowable area, in such a way that a number of units could be made. These units could either be used individually or combined to form one big house.
Since these houses are joined in the centre, the interior spaces around the dividing wall tend to be dark. This was treated by cutting a linear skylight throughout that cuts across the entire width of the house, flooding light in.
The ground and first floors are very well linked on both sides, with the help of double height spaces and a 15 feet high entrance foyer, which also accommodates steel staircase. These staircases are part of a steel structure that wraps around the house linking spaces at various levels.
Basement creates a completely independent unit with an independent access from the back road. It could easily be joint or segregated from the upper house by allowing or removing a steel stair case which links it to the upper floor.
